Got a Girl Crush On: Thu Tran I saw Thu perform last night at the Everything Is Terrible screening in Brooklyn. She adorably made “doughnuts” out of rolled-up hunks of white-bread dipped in the likes of strawberry-kiwi kool-aid, emergen-c and marshmallow fluff, and even beef ramen spice all the while narrating the steps on an echoing microphone. **note the ingenious mac laptop set-up with photobooth projected onto the screen behind her for a maximum learning experience–she’s holding up a slice of bread for the camera** Everything seemed sweet and innocent, but then she shaved a stuffed dog that was full of hotdogs… Which gives greater insite to her twisted and hilarious Pee-wee’s Playhouse meets whacked-out public access art project, Food Party. “Food Party is a mind-bending, non-reality cooking show with Thu Tran as your hostess, a cast of unruly puppets as culinary aides, and a cavalcade of fictitious celebrities as surprise dinner guests.” In this episode learn how to make deviled eggs with the devil for “Yolko Ono.” Eggcellent! Check out more of Thu’s art on her website and get your food party on at foodparty.tv or on the IFC channel.
