Got a girl crush on: Alice in Wonderland –the 1985 TV movie version
Tim Burton’s highly anticipated Alice in Wonderland is finally out this Friday and I’m stoked. But none can compare to the fond memories I have of watching the 1985 made-for-tv adaptation by Harry Harris. In fact, I tracked down a DVD of it a few years ago and still watch it here and there for old times sake.
First of all, the casting was bananas and included Carol Channing, Shelley Winters, Sherman Helmsley, Scott Baio, Sammy Davis Jr., and Ringo Starr just to name a few.
Second of all, the music was so memorable to me as a kid, especially Carol Channing’s scene. It’s no doubt the most bizarre song and dance number I’ve ever seen. I posted it right here on this blog before. Why? Because she flippin’ turns into a sheep! WTF?!
Lastly, at the height of my childhood obsession with this movie, my Aunt got me a dress that looked strikingly similar to Alice’s and I wore the shit out of that thing. I’d say it’s in the top 5 dresses of my life.
